This October it is a very special month for Fairfield House. In addition to it being Black History Month in the UK, it is the 70th Anniversary of the return of His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie I to the City of Bath, shortly after his State Visit with HM Queen Elizabeth II in London. On this visit to Bath 70 years ago, the Emperor stayed at Fairfield House and was made an Honorary Freeman of the City of Bath. It is also 30 years since BEMSCA ( Bath Ethnic Minority Senior Citizens Association) first began their day service for the elderly ethnic minorities of Bath at Fairfield House.
In recognition of these special anniversaries, we have an amazing series of events lined up throughout the month of October.
Highlights include:
Remembering HIM @ Circomedia, Portland Square, Bristol on the 10th October
The Freedom in the City Festival on the 19th October in the Bath Assembly Rooms from 11am - 8pm
Free event - An all day party and educational festival with the communities of Fairfield House sharing their different cultural celebrations, in partnership with the National Trust Bath Assembly rooms. All welcome
And a special archive display of items relating to His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie I at Bath Abbey, along with a commemorative Even Song Service to close the anniversary celebrations on Sunday 20th October a 3.30pm
We look forward to welcoming everyone at all the special events for His Imperial Majesty and His legacy throughout this month in October.
