The Festival of Sylvia Pankhurst Celebrating International Women's Day



Sylvia Pankhurst, a very important figure in the Suffragette movement, became a ferocious and ceaseless voice for Ethiopia in the 1930s. She moved to Ethiopia in the 1950s to assist HIM Emperor Haile Selassie I with Ethiopian development and received an Ethiopian state burial upon her death in 1960. The Emperor said they will always regard Sylvia Pankhurst as an honorary Ethiopian



We are very lucky at Fairfield House to have been offered a special preview screening of a new mixed media documentary film by Joan Ashworth, about the interesting and inspirational life of Sylvia Pankhurst.


The screenings will be on the 9th of March at 2.30pm and 6.30pm along with a panel discussion with special guests, talks, poetry performances and food available.
