An amazing celebration of the enduring legacy of HIM Emperor Haile Selassie I happened on Saturday 28th October 2023 at the National Trust Bath assembly rooms.

In the 1930s, the Abyssinia Association would meet in the Assembly rooms and express their support for Ethiopia, in 1941, Empress Menen and Princess Tenangework attended a wartime peace concert here, and on the 28th October 2023, 430 visitors visited the Tea room and Card room in the Assembly rooms, to take part in a multi community Black History Month celebration held by Fairfield House, former home of HIM Emperor Haile Selassie I.

A series of interesting and educational talks took place on the day. Pictured here are Professor Shawn Sobers and Rob Mitchell speaking about their recent research journey to Ethiopia.

The Assembly rooms was a brilliant venue for our celebration of the 69th anniversary of His Imperial Majesty being made an Honourary Freeman of the City of Bath.

Visitors enjoyed Rastafari and Ethiopian music, Caribbean food prepared and served by BEMSCA and craft activities with the elders of Fairfield House.

It was a wonderful day full of sharing our different cultures in the heart of the World Heritage City of Bath. We are very thankful to all volunteers, visitors, stall holders and the staff of the assembly rooms for making this such a memorable day.
